When I read the email from Vickie Black of Senior Style Guide Magazine, I dissected it for “fine print”. The kind of fine print that hides the catch to a “too good to be true” sort of thing. She invited me to contribute to the 2015/2016 Senior Fashion Issue and after staring at my screen at my screen in disbelief, I typed “yes”.
Then, the nerves started to set in and I began to imagine the worst case scenario for the next five minutes. Like, what if I suck? I had a team that I fully trusted to carry out the vision, but was I good enough?
This publication is filled with the creative work of industry leaders from coast to coast, bringing the biggest fashion predictions in their region. These are photographers with huge followings and some that teach their own workshops. What on earth could someone as small as me contribute to this issue?
First of all, it was fear talking. I knew the answer was that it’s not about me. It’s about others. I used this opportunity to push myself, collaborate with local talent that I adore and hopefully inspire others with some south Texas fashion predictions!
In all that you do, please remember that it’s okay to start small. Everyone starts small. You can be small and contribute something. It’s not about appealing to the masses. It’s about connecting with and helping like minded people. Even if its three people!
What I LOVE about this issue, is that it’s packed with the fashion trends from coast to coast to including different styles and trends in different regions.
I am so happy that San Antonio stylists, Jax Roberson, Melody Pereda and Lisa Tello could also share their talent in this issue. We even had Camilla Crown, a new moving and shaking boutique in San Antonio contribute to a featured look in the magazine. I am super grateful for the collaboration love in our city. I ordered my issue and I can’t wait to get it in the mail! You can find me curled up in a cozy corner with a chai latte in my hand and looking forward to fall!
